Situated on the cobbled streets of Church Street at the base of the 199 steps, with extensive views across Whitby Harbour, is the Duke of York. This traditional pub offers a warm welcome to all of its customers with a wide variety of hand pulled real ales, ciders, lagers, bottled drinks, soft drinks and coffees alongside a variety of carefully chosen wines, served by friendly staff in comfortable cosy surroundings.
With wonderful views of the busy harbour, the piers and the West Cliff, relax and watch the world go by whilst sampling a delicious meal from the extensive home cooked meals menu or the ‘specials’ board. Food is served every day between noon and 9.00 p.m. and uses suppliers of fresh fish and meat sourced locally to ensure quality and freshness.
The Duke of York offers accommodation on a room only basis. There are six comfortable double rooms en-suite equipped with television and tea/coffee making facilities. Five of the bedrooms have wonderful harbour and sea views whilst the sixth has views of historic Church Street and the one hundred and ninety nine steps.
The Duke of York has been trading for over one hundred and fifty years, the walls of the bar depicting pictures and memorabilia from Whitby’s historic past, including harpoons and bronze propeller and it continues to offer good ales and hospitality, whilst offering the comforts of modern facilities such as free wi-fi.
