The West Side of Whitby has three main shopping streets, Skinner Street, Flowergate and Baxtergate. These streets have many shops that support the general population of Whitby, as well as gift shops that would be of interest to visitors to the town. In Baxtergate you will find a wide range of shops including chemists, butchers, clothing stores, card shops, flower and vegetable shops, to name but a few. There are also banks and building societies on this street.
Golden Lion Bank Whitby
Flowergate can be reached from the harbour, via the steep and winding Golden Lion Bank. Golden Lion Bank itself has a number of interesting shops. Flowergate has a supermarket and a wide range of shops for both local people and tourists, as well as an assortment of charity shops, fine goods and antique shops.
Bothams, Skinner Streeet Whitby
At the top of Flowergate is Skinner Street. Here you will find a wide assortment of shops and one of the famous Bothams bakeries and cafes. This bustling street includes the popular bookstore and stationers Holmans, quality clothing and jewellery establishments to name but a few.
Whitby Tourist Information
The Tourist Information Office is situated in the harbour master's office on Endeavour Wharf carpark(opposite CO-OP carpark), and has valuable information regarding accommodation and what's on. Near here, and near the large Co-op supermarket opposite, there are pay and display car parking areas. The bus station and library are in close proximity. There are public conveniences next to Trenches (a charge applies).
Whitby Train Station
Next to the bus station is the Whitby Coliseum Centre, (an activity centre and caf� in what was once the old Bingo Hall) which often shows films. Whitby Hospital and Police Station, are accessed by Spring Hill, just off Bagdale, by the side of Bagdale Hall and the zebra crossing.
Whitby West Side and Harbour
There are two Post Offices in Whitby, one in the Co-op Supermarket and the other is in Costcutters, on the Parade.
Pannet Park
The large Pannet Park (see 'Pannet Park' page in the 'What to Do' section) can be accessed from Bagdale, St Hilda's Terrace and Chubb Hill Road. St Hilda's Terrace is probably the grandest street in Whitby. It is a long terrace of huge Georgian houses, looking over the park, and with fantastic views of the town
St Hilda's Terrace Whitby
The West Side of Whitby has a cricket field, rugby field, football grounds, tennis courts, a bowling club and a rifle club. On the outskirts of Whitby, on Sandsend Road, is Whitby Golf Club. With stunning views over the sea and Sandsend, Whitby Golf Club must be one of the most scenic courses in the county!
Pier Road, Whitby
There are numerous public houses, restaurants and cafes are dotted around the West side of Whitby, as well as a couple of nightclubs.
St Ninian's Church on Baxtergate, Whitby
The are a number of churches here. St. John The Evangelist is at the bottom of Brunswick Street, St. Hilda�s Church of England Church on the West Cliff, St. Hilda�s Roman Catholic Church, in Victoria Square, St. Ninian�s Anglican Catholic Church in Baxtergate, Unitarian Chapel in Flowergate, a Methodist Church, The Mission on Haggersgate, Trinity United Reform Church on Flowergate, Friends and Quakers, Marton Court Byland Road, West Cliff Congregational Church on Skinner Street/ Albert Place, Whitby Evangelical Church on Skinner Street and The Salvation Army at St. Peter�s Court.
Whitby Town Centre and Harbour
Whitby has 3 petrol stations, Eves' Garage on Guisborough Road, Spar Garage in Stakesby and Harrison�s Garage on Upgang Lane.
Whitby Harbour and Pier Road
