Last week was quite a busy week for children in Whitby Yorkshire. The Eskdale Festivel of Arts came to a close last weekend after two weeks of dedicated performances by children of the town and some from futher afield. The first week focused mainly on poetry, prose and sections of acting. The second week concentrated on music and the excellence of the performances was quite inspiring. Ranging from classical to modern, to jazz and orchestral music. Solo perfomers, choirs and orchestras all played their part to make this a most wonderful fortnight to showcase the talent of the children in Whitby and the local villages around Whitby Yorkshire.
Children in Castleton have been on a field trip to Ganister quarries to learn about the geology of the Jurassic Coast on the Yorkshire Coastline. The children have been busily making a display of their work to be exhibited on Thursday at Castleton Primary School at 2 p.m. This is part of a project run by the NE Yorkshire Geology Trust.
On the sports front, children have been competing at this year’s Whitby Primary School gymnastics competition which was held at Caedmon School. Children from the local villages and surrounding areas competed against each other in such events as gymnastics, floor excercises and apparatus equipment.
Congratulations and well done to all the children who have taken part in in both academic, sporting and entertainment activities in Whitby Yorkshire this past couple of weeks.
Traffic is now flowing freely on the Mayfield traffic lights after completion of the work last week. However, Lythe Bank is closed to traffic until Friday and then again from the 28th March to the 1st April to allow for resurfacing work. Diversions will be in place at times of closure. Work is also taking place with traffic lights in use on Stakesby Road but work has now been almost completed on Upgang Lane. Whitby’s Swing Bridge is still closed to traffic.
