It certainly seems like spring has arrived in our wonderful town. The winding purple and white crocus path is in full bloom on Mayfield Road and there is just the beginnings of the pink blossom on the flowering cherry trees, certainly a pretty sight on the approach to the town. Summer planting is in evidence all around and the daffodils and primroses are nearly ready to burst forth in the predicted sunshine of this coming week.
When driving into the town please be aware that traffic is prohibited from crossing the swing bridge owing to the widening of the footpaths from this Monday 7th March for approximately two weeks. Apart from this Monday, pedestrian access will be maintained unless absolutely unavoidable.
Local people and visitors may not be aware that the Whitby Pavilion is now showing some of the latest films in the theatre. This coming weekend it is scheduled to show The King’s Speech. Please check the Whitby Gazette for details.
This years Eskdale Festival of Arts is underway and continues throughout next week at the Whitby Pavilion. Many of the local schools are represented and are to showcase their musical talent in the coming week. The various winners will perform at a special concert on the 13th March.
The local football team ‘The Blues’ are to be congratulated on their 4-0 victory over Ossett Town, their next match is Saturday 5th March against Colwyn Bay. Here’s hoping that they can repeat their success.
Hope everyone enjoys the milder weather that is predicted for this weekend and the next week.
